Can one give Zakat to Tahfiz centres directly?

Decision:
On 12 December 2006 the Fatwa Committee stated that according to Syariah, private distribution of Zakat without going through the ruler is valid if distributed to deserving Asnaf. However, breaking the law even if for a good deed is committing a sin as in Islam, it is mandatory to obey the ruler or Ulil Amri in doing good.

That said, LZS has appointed Private Islamic Education Institutions / Institusi Pendidikan Islam Swasta (IPIS) in Selangor as Zakat collection agents. Zakat payers wanting to ensure their payment reaches the Maahad Tahfiz can go through this channel as part of the collection by IPIS will benefit the Maahad Tahfiz.
